Michael D. Callan joins Saunders Kahler, L.L.P., February 2010
The firm is pleased to announce the addition of Michael D. Callan as an associate. Mr. Callan received his Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School of Union University in 2009, and his B.A. from Syracuse University in 2006. He was admitted to the bar of New York State on February 24, 2010. Mr. Callan is a native of New Hartford, NY and previously worked as an intern at the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office.

Rizzo Elected President of Rome Bar, January 2010
James S. Rizzo was elected as President of the City of Rome Bar Association by its members for a two-year term running from January 1, 2010 – December 31, 2011.

In Memoriam, James H. Gilroy, Jr., Esq., November 2008
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of James H. Gilroy, Jr. Jim was born in Utica, New York on August 3, 1921, the eldest son of the late J. Herbert Gilroy, Esq. and Louise J. Gilroy. He attended Utica schools and graduated from Syracuse University in 1943. During Word War II, Jim served his country as a pilot in the United States Navy and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1948, Jim received his Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi and the Justinian Society. Later that same year, and following in his father’s footsteps, Jim was admitted to the New York State Bar. In 1948, Jim began his legal career at the Utica law firm of Ferris, Hughes, Dorrance & Groben where he specialized in corporate, banking, real estate, trusts and estates law. Jim spent the next 50 years of his career at the law firm, eventually rising to become its managing partner. In 1998, Jim became “of counsel” to Saunders Kahler, L.L.P. Jim thoroughly enjoyed the practice of law, was widely acknowledged to be extremely good at it, and continued to stay active in his later years by examining a title or two every month. He was a member of the Oneida County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Firm Changes Name, September 2008
In September 2008, the firm formally changed its name from Saunders, Kahler, Amoroso & Locke, L.L.P., to Saunders Kahler, L.L.P. While the attorneys remain the same, the change reflects the firm’s growing practice and was viewed as being more convenient for clients and the public. The firm also launched this website for improved accessibility by the public.

Rizzo Made Partner, January 2008
James S. Rizzo, an associate with the firm since June 2006, and former Corporation Counsel (2002-2006) and First Assistant Corporation Counsel (1996-2002) for the City of Rome, New York, was made a partner at Saunders Kahler, L.L.P., in January 2008.
